How to save quotes from a paper book

Updated October 18, 2026

To save a quote from a paper book, you can copy it into a notebook, photograph the page, or read it aloud to an app. In Faria, read a line aloud on its own during a reading session and it’s saved, tidied up, with a few seconds to undo. Your saved lines gather on a wall for each book and come back on your lock screen through the day.

The options

  • A commonplace notebook: the oldest method and still a good one, if slow mid-chapter.
  • A photo of the page: fast, but the line is buried in a camera roll of other things.
  • A highlights app such as Readwise: scan the text with your camera and it joins your digital highlights for review.
  • Faria: read the line aloud and keep reading. No typing, no camera, and your hands stay on the book.

Saving a line in Faria

During a session, read the sentence aloud on its own. Faria recognizes that it’s a line from the book rather than a question, saves it, and shows “Saved” with a moment to undo. Restarts, filler words and misheard words are cleaned up. Say “undo” or “don’t save that” to take it back.

Seeing them again

Saved lines that never come back are soon forgotten. Faria’s lines gather on a wall of cards for each book, which you can shuffle or flick through as a deck, and they return as lock-screen notifications through the day. Any line can be shared as an image card.

Questions

What’s the easiest way to save quotes from a physical book?

Read the line aloud. Faria on iPhone saves a line you read aloud during a reading session, cleans it up, and brings it back later on your lock screen. A notebook or a highlights app with a camera scanner are the other common options.

How do I remember what I read?

Keep the lines that matter and see them again. Faria resurfaces your saved lines on your lock screen; Readwise sends a daily review of highlights. Talking about a book, or writing a few lines when you finish it, helps too.
